The King's Guard
Our story begins with our characters reporting for their first day as part of the King’s Guard. The guard station is located in the Old Quarter of the city; a rough neighbourhood. The first to arrive is Mosswyn an Elf. He finds Captain Alwin sound asleep at his desk and decides to wake up the surly man. Alwin, awake and annoyed, asks the elf three simple questions to which all answers should be no. Satisfied, Mosswin is given a soiled Tunic The next to arrive is Olivia Moretti, a sixteen year old girl looking for adventure, who also finds Alwin quite asleep. Waking him, she is asked the questions and given a soiled tunic. She is given strict instructions to keep anyone else from interrupting the sleeping captain. Instead she seeks to clean her soiled tunic in one of the many nasty rain barrels. This allows Thelocius, a mage/scoundrel, into the office where he also receives a similar treatment to Mosswyn and Olivia. The next arrival is Antonius, a local porcheter down on his luck, who decides against waking Alwin and instead joins him in his nap. The final character on the scene is Brutus Perenius, a local non-guild barrister, who has decided to join the King’s Guard in search of clients. He also avoids waking the captain and opts to sign his recruitment papers while both of the other men slept. Soon Alwin was awake and our characters nominate Olivia to be the squad leader before they head off to see the king.
An Audience with the King.
Our characters are brought before King Alfred at the Fortress of Marentum where they receive a pep talk and their official documents. The King demands that they clean up the Old Quarter and bring to justice any members of the Thieves Guild. During their orientation with the King, our squad runs into some of the other members of the King’s Guard. Alpha Squad which consisted of Anthony Shebley, Boris, Groslynn, and others; became the Ski School baddies. They had the best patrol route and some fancy equipment. Thelocius, being of loud mouth, antagonizes Anthony Shebley into a tussle. The King, highly entertained by the display, has both squad leaders choose a champion. Anthony chooses Boris, while Olivia forces Thelocius to put his money where his mouth is by nominating him. Boris beats Thelocius like a rented mule and the inter-squad rivalry was on.
